Today’s blog is a continuation of a series:
Why people fail at business.
Reason #1 was they don’t have a motivating enough WHY.
Reason #2 was they quit too soon.
Reason #3 is they rely on others way too much.
What do I mean by this?
98% of the population waits for someone else to do the hard stuff.
They believe someone (the government, friends, a partner) is going to save them and make it happen.
And because they believe this, or WISH for it, they sit around and don’t take action.
They don’t learn what they need to learn.
They don’t have an “I’ll do what it takes” attitude.
This mindset is created in the public school systems which indoctrinates into entire generations the belief that you must rely on “the system”.
Maybe you relate to this:
Entrepreneurs almost never thrive in public schools.
We break the mold, we don’t sit still, many of us have ADHD, and we’re easily distracted. We just can’t sit down, shut up, and obey. We are way too curious with way too many ideas.
This is seen as abnormal and UNHEALTHY in the government system.
The punishment for being this way: medicate those students who show signs of free thinking so that they will shut up and conform.
Some people are waking up to this. Now we know better.
We know that what the government deems as unhealthy are really signs of a free-thinking, creative individual.
These are people with a lot of ideas and they will never thrive in that kind of environment.
So, after having this belief system pounded into us from school and our culture, it’s no wonder entrepreneurs are having a hard time being self-reliant when it comes to getting their business off the ground.
So here it is:
NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU OR HELP YOU GET YOUR BUSINESS OFF THE GROUND.
IT’S GOING TO COME DOWN TO YOU AND YOU ALONE TO GET THIS DONE.
“But wait a minute Leah…. aren’t we supposed to rely on others? Aren’t we supposed to get away from doing everything ourselves? Shouldn’t we… delegate?!?”
Here’s the answer: If you’re not at a million dollars in ANNUAL revenue yet… then NO, you should not delegate everything yet.
Does that mean you should do things you are bad at? No, but it means you need to be creative to get certain things done.
Until you are even multi-millions into your business, you need to become good at everything.
You will be a generalist until you can afford to be a specialist.
That means you must get good at ALL OF THESE:
Product Development
Market Research
Branding
Marketing
Advertising
Finances
Operations
Examples of a few things you can outsource as a one-time job that are not going to become part of your fixed costs:
> Logo & branding design
> Promotional graphics & videos
> Filing taxes
Once you FULLY ACCEPT the responsibility that your success or failure is 100% on you and you alone, then you have a shot at doing something extraordinary.
Are you willing to learn everything it takes?
I’m taking my students through each of the areas they must become good at inside my coaching program this year.
I’m not sure when it’s opening up next, but if you’re interested in joining, you’ll need to be on this list.
